Dear Supported Employees, families and carers,


I am writing to provide you with an update, following the fire on Friday afternoon, 22 January, at the Warwick EFI.

Firstly, I would like to thank all our Supported Employees who stayed calm during the fire.

Thank you also to our staff who acted quickly to call the Fire Service and ensure everyone was kept safe from harm.

The safety of the people we support is always our first priority. I am also grateful to families and carers who responded immediately when we asked for people to be transported home earlier than usual, on Friday afternoon.

I’d also like to thank the Warwick Fire and Rescue Service, who responded immediately to the incident. Our Workplace Health and Safety team will continue to work with fire services to understand the cause of the fire and will act on any changes they recommend.

Current situation

Thank you for your understanding today while the worksite was closed for us to clean up and prepare for the return of our supported employees.

As you may be aware, the fire began in some cardboard stored on the perimeter of the property. There was no structural damage to the building and, more importantly, no injury to staff or supported employees.

The site is being cleaned and we will be back to normal routine when supported employees are back on site.

Business as usual - Wednesday 27 January

We are looking forward to welcoming back our supported employees on Wednesday 27 January. On arrival our staff will gather everyone together to talk through what happened and answer any questions or concerns people may have.

If anyone needs additional support, please let us know. Our team will be happy to help and a social worker can be arranged if required. All employees and family members can call our phone counselling line if you need to talk things over. The number is 1300 360 364 and there is no charge for this service.
