Awards for Most Outstanding Apprentice and Most Outstanding Trainee in the Brisbane region were presented recently to two young graduates who completed work placements through TORGAS, an organisation that provides apprentices and trainees to businesses throughout Queensland.
Fourth year electrical apprentice Joshua McNab won the award for Most Outstanding Apprentice during his placement at SDF Electrical from Sunnybank Hills.
Will Griffiths, TORGAS Field Officer for the Brisbane region said that the award is given to an apprentice who displays outstanding characteristics and consistency throughout their apprenticeship.
“Joshua has come a long way. He has shown he works well both as part of a team or on his own, and displays a conscientious attitude and high attention to detail at all times.”
TORGAS General Manager Ms Bronwyn Wheldon said that SDF Electrical were to be commended for their contribution and dedication in providing the environment and skills development for the tradespeople of tomorrow.
“SDF Electrical has a strong commitment to Work Health and Safety which is consistently delivered in all their worksites. Their processes and procedures are exemplary and they are constantly looking for ways to improve their systems.”
Most Outstanding Trainee of the Year was awarded to Keeley Dickson, who completed her placement with host business Finance Brokers Association of Australia, based at Stones Corner. Keeley’s strong work ethic and organisation skills enabled her to not only complete her business administration modules early, but work in both the Reception and Membership area at once.
Her mentor - and winner of the TORGAS Mentor of the Year Award - Operations Manager of Finance Brokers Association of Australia Rebekah Davis is a strong advocate for trainee development and consistently looks for opportunities in which trainees can be employed, according to Will Griffiths.
“Rebekah has an open and approachable manner and is able to develop strong relationships with those she mentors.”
General Manager Bronwyn Wheldon said the TORGAS Awards night was “an event that rightly recognises these wonderful young achievers - and it was also great to see the sponsors, host businesses, friends and family come together to support the TORGAS apprentices and trainees and celebrate their success.”
The TORGAS Brisbane Awards night was sponsored by Warby Tools, MTA Institute, TAFE QLD-SkillsTech, Heavy Vehicle Industry Australia (HVIA), MEGT, Queensland Country Credit Union, Endeavour Foundation and eSafe.
TORGAS is a not-for-profit organisation providing apprentices and trainees to businesses throughout Queensland. With an enviable record of achievement as the apprentice and trainee specialists, TORGAS has built strong partnerships with industry to provide quality employment opportunities in apprenticeships and traineeships for more than three decades.
