Endeavour Foundation CEO David Barbagallo has welcomed the Australian Government's decision to fully fund DisabilityCare (formerly known as the National Disability Insurance Scheme) with $14.3 billion to establish the scheme over seven years.
"This is the first time that people with a significant, permanent disability and carers will have a secure future, in the history of our nation," Mr Barbagallo said.
Family carer, advocate and Sydney Area Committee Chair Kathy Breen said that whatever political party wins the September election, it was unthinkable that DisabilityCare could now be rolled back.
"Today Australia has come of age as a nation," she said.
"Now that full funds are in place it's time to roll up our sleeves.
"We look forward to seeing disability organisations and governments throughout the nation work with people with a disability and carers to establish the best support system in the world," Ms Breen said.
An overview of the budget commitment to DisabilityCare is available at http://www.budget.gov.au/2013-14/content/glossy/NDIS_policy/html/NDIS_overview_01.htm
