Supported Independent Living for every need

Moving out of your family home can be challenging for anybody and is quite a big change in your life. It’s normal to feel a variety of emotions during this period, including happiness, sadness, stress, and even sentimental. It can be even more complicated accessing services that can support you to live independently under the NDIS. That’s why we, at Endeavour Foundation, work hard to provide Supported Independent Living (SIL) options in Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) compliant homes.

SIL is offered by the NDIS for people with disability who may choose to live outside of their family home and in a shared living arrangement. This accommodation can be accessed by anybody with SIL support in their NDIS plan.

Independent living for people with complex support needs

While SIL exists to give NDIS participants a greater level of independence, it doesn’t mean you have to do everything on your own. When you’re living in SIL accommodation, you’ll be able to get the care and support you need to live as independently as possible from your SIL providers.

SIL is designed to ensure you have everything you need to maximise your independence, including 24/7 complex support care.

Complex support care is a type of support provided to people with disability who need higher-level or specialised support needs to live independently. Complex care is different to low or medium types of support because the people who provide it need to have special skills or qualifications.

If you need help managing your medications to stay happy and healthy, you might benefit from having a complex care provider. The same goes if you have specialised feeding requirements, or if you need hoisting help to get around and live your best life.

Whatever your needs are, we can help you find the right complex care provider to help you maximise your independence in SIL.

Looking for the best complex care provider can be complicated. Every individual is different, and the care you receive should be designed to meet your individual needs.

If you’re wondering how we can provide personalised, complex support care for your individual needs in SIL, keep reading – we’re about to explain exactly that.

Personalised support when you move in

Moving into SIL is a big change in your life, and we want to make it as smooth and stress-free as possible. That’s what our Quality Practice Improvement process is for: to ensure your home and all the supports you need are organised before you move in.

In other words, before you move into your SIL home, we work with you to identify your support needs and organise for an occupational therapist to check that the house is ready for you to move into.

We also want to make sure that you will thrive in your new home. We make sure that the people you are living with will suit you, and we have support workers trained and ready to support you from the day you move in.

Before you move in, each person on your team takes the time to understand your likes and dislikes so we can find the best living arrangement possible for you. We boast a person-centred support model and build the supports around you and make sure you can live your best independent life and have a smooth transition into a great new home.

Your SIL plan needs to work for you too, so it’s important for us to understand and provide services and support that are important to you. At the end of the referral, we develop your unique transition plan. It’s a two-way conversation to make sure we can meet your expectations, and we make sure you get the opportunity to trial, to comment, and to have your say about what we can do to better meet your needs.

New and fully-accessible homes in the City of Ipswich

We’ve recently built two brand new fully-accessible homes in Yamanto on the south side of Ipswich. Both homes have been designed under our My Home, My Life initiative, which means it’s built to the Platinum level of the Livable Housing Guidelines.

Safety, autonomy, and lifestyle are key offerings, with each home boasting large and fully-fenced backyards and open-plan living areas, perfect for spending time with fellow residents, family and friends. Or, if you want some quiet time there is a spacious bedroom which opens up to your own personal patio. To assist with independent living, there are help buttons throughout the house and Tunstall Assistive Technology is included.

Both homes are in a prime location with access to a range of supports and services. Just nine minutes away from our Ipswich Learning and Lifestyle hubs and half an hour from the Business Solutions site in Wacol.

Ipswich is soon becoming one of Australia’s disability-friendly places to live and thrive. Take a look at the lifestyle Ipswich has to offer.
Personalised support

One person who made the decision to move into a brand new home is Scott. Scott is excited and proud of his new home, and is thriving in SIL. He has a new extended family who shares lots of his interests, likes and dislikes, and is living his best life. Scott’s mother, May, doesn’t have to worry as much now, knowing that her son is in good hands with 24/7 support when he needs it. Read more about May and Scott’s story.
