Play a part in disability inclusion on the Sunshine Coast

14 February 2017

Endeavour Foundation’s Nambour day service has issued a call for members of the local community to join their newly formed art program, and create a truly inclusive experience.

Funded through a grant from Sunshine Coast Council, and supported by the fabulous team at Coolum HeARTs, the programme aims to develop artistic skills in tandem with lasting social relationships for people with and without a disability.

Sally Bowling, support worker with Endeavour Foundation, described it as an opportunity for everyone to grow.

“We have been so privileged to work with Barb and Clive - as well as Les and Wendy - at Coolum HeARTs, who have shown us just how much can be gained from exploring your artistic abilities, and from stepping outside your social comfort-zone.

“There are so many people who would relish the opportunity to make new friends and develop new interests, and all while enabling a whole new level of community engagement for people with a disability.”

Brian Williams is just one of the programme’s participants.

“I enjoy learning about painting and meeting other artists. I enjoy the atmosphere and having a good chat with everyone.”

Delighted by the support of Sunshine Coast Council – a $2,000 grant to provide easels and all the necessary materials – Sally said that a contribution of $5 is all that the team ask for an abundance of fun, coffee and cake!

“We would really love for both participants and volunteers to join us. The programme is underway, but the more people we have involved, the more we’ll all benefit.”

Classes run Tuesdays 10am to 12pm. To find out more, contact Sally or Sarah on 5453 8023.
