Supported Employees at Endeavour Foundation Industries in Mackay were shocked and delighted last week when three former Broncos and a former Jillaroo made a surprise visit to the local site.
Welcoming Michael De Vere, Michael Hancock and David Stagg, alongside NRL Development Officer and member of the 2015 Jillaroos squad, Renae Kunst, the excitement was palpable.
Local man Terry Boddington appreciated the opportunity to meet with his NRL heroes.
“It was very good that they came. They were very nice and signed my shirt. I hope they come back one day,” Terry said.
Ever the pragmatist, Trevor Tuckerman saw an opportunity he couldn’t miss - “I introduced myself and shook hands with them and I scored some autographs”.
Kylie Higginson, part of a large Endeavour Foundation team whose roles span areas such as collating and general packaging, and the production of stakes and pegs, crates and pallets, said that “it was excellent of the Broncos to visit us”.
Shea McLeod, Production Manager, said that the visit meant the world to the local team.
“Everyone was incredibly excited and all four probably left exhausted by autographs and happy snaps! It was a really wonderful surprise for the Supported Employees and an awesome reward for the hard work that they put in at our site every day.”
Endeavour Foundation is a diverse community organisation working together with people with a disability in the Mackay region, so that they have real possibilities to live life to the full, whether that means moving into a new home, gaining qualifications that help fulfil individual aspirations or finding a job.
