Southport man Ray Wilkie fulfilled a lifelong ambition last week, when he rolled up to his front door at Endeavour Foundation’s Dakara Drive residence at Southport, aboard a gleaming Harley Davidson motorbike.
Grinning from ear to ear, Ray said “This is the best ride I’ve ever had. It was great”.
Endeavour Foundation support worker Kim Bell said that the look on Ray’s face was ‘priceless’, and made all the local team’s efforts worthwhile.
“This plan had been in the works for some time, but we’d had to put it on hold after Ray broke his hip. We knew that, because of his injury, riding a traditional motorbike was out of the question, but we were determined to find a way to make Ray’s dream come true.
“That’s when we discovered the Harley Davidson Trike. It was a safe and comfortable alternative for Ray and, once on board, he couldn’t keep the grin off his face.
“We visited Ray’s home and he proudly showed off his ‘hot wheels for the day’ to his mates at the residence. After everybody got over their excitement and were suitably impressed we took off again to the sound of cheers and the roar of the trike engine.”
