Fairy dust the key to lottery success for Maleny family?

29 July 2016

As Fiona Halliday and John Cassidy await the arrival of their second child – due within days – celebrations began rather earlier than expected, after the couple were given the incredible news that they had won a $1.2 million Endeavour Foundation lottery prize home in Maleny.

While John hails from northwest Scotland, Fiona is a local to the Maleny area with family living nearby. The couple currently live just two suburbs over from the 65th Anniversary Lottery prize home.

“We already feel so lucky to have just bought our first home,” said Fiona, “and then to win a second home is unbelievable! It’s still making my head spin.”

They’re still overwhelmed about their $1.2 million win and are considering their options. At the moment they’re still splitting their time between both homes.

“We have a lot of family coming to visit soon from overseas and now we have plenty of space for everyone,” said Fiona. “It’s such a gift for the weight of financial pressures to be lifted. It means we can have more time for family and less stress overall. We feel so blessed.”

Fiona purchased tickets while visiting the prize home after a friend mentioned it was open up the road.

“I usually just buy the one ticket, but bought 10 this time,” said Fiona. “It’s for a great cause that we’re happy to support! I think the work that Endeavour does is so important and really helps to change the lives of those it reaches. I never in forever thought that we might actually win! It was enough just to know that we were supporting something worthwhile.”

Fiona also added that after she bought the tickets the couple’s three year old daughter, Ava, sprinkled some fairy dust on them for good luck. Maybe that did the trick!

Executive General Manager of Supporter Enterprises Andrew Thomas said that the Endeavour Foundation lotteries are all about ‘making dreams come true’.

“There’s never just one winner, because the funds we raise help us to deliver on the ambitions of the people we support,” Andrew said.

“Working together with people with a disability, we’re committed to supporting them to live life to the full, whether that means moving into a new home, gaining qualifications that help fulfil individual aspirations or, finding a job. Our focus is on supporting people along their journey."

Tickets are available from 3 August for Endeavour Foundation’s stunning $1.7m Castaways Beach prize home. Bounded by National Park, yet just a few minutes’ drive from shopping and schools at Noosa, an in-ground pool, drop down cinema screen and cabana dining for 12, are just some of the exceptional features on offer. Tickets can be purchased online at www.endeavourlotteries.com.au.
