Bundaberg the launching pad for Great Endeavour Rally
The countdown is on and final preparations are being made for the Great Endeavour Rally, which is set to roar out of Bundaberg in just under three weeks.
As one of Australia’s premier charity motoring events, the Great Endeavour Rally has been raising much-needed funds for Endeavour Foundation for 32 years, with proceeds supporting people with disability to lead their best lives.
Event Specialist Nathan Woolhouse said this year’s 3700km rally, dubbed ‘the Gulf Trek’, would be the trip of a lifetime.
“We’re going from Bundaberg through savanna grasslands and Julia Creek up to Karumba in the Gulf of Carpentaria and then through Undara Volcanic National Park to Townsville,” Mr Woolhouse said.
“There’s no better way to see what an amazingly diverse landscape we have here in Queensland.”
Mr Woolhouse said 150 people in 56 vehicles, including support vehicles from the Australian Army, would take on the eight-day challenge raising dust, dollars and awareness for disability while supporting drought and flood-affected communities along the way.
“There are lots of reasons to support the Great Endeavour Rally,” he said.
“When the rally comes to town, you can expect colourful cars, costumes and personalities to put a smile on the dial of everyone who meets us.
“So it’s not just about raising funds for a great cause because we also bring cheer and spend thousands of dollars in the communities we visit.”
Bundaberg local Steven Anderson is one of three Endeavour Foundation customers going on the rally – something he’s dreamed of doing for 10 years.
“I’m really excited and counting the days until we leave,” Mr Anderson said.
“It’s a great opportunity doing something I have never done before.”
Stops on the rally include Theodore (July 27), Jericho (July 28), Kynuna (July 29), Burke & Wills Roadhouse (July 30), Karumba (July 31), Einasleigh (Aug 1), Cardwell (Aug 2) and Townsville (Aug 3).
