People with a disability

16 August 2015

Rally drivers from Gympie and the Sunshine Coast travelled to the Redcliffe L&L – where the rally will be officially flagged off on July 17 - to share the excitement of the rally with people with a disability, including a drive along the main strip.

Before heading south the seven drivers had stopped in at Bokarina to show off the flamboyant rally cars and give joyrides to people with a disability who attend Endeavour Foundation’s Kawana Waters L&L.

Supporter and local Area Committee Chairman Peter Coleman said, “We really wanted to do something special for people with disabilities, whom we’re directly supporting in the rally through all of our fundraising.”

“The delight of the people who rode in the cars was just priceless to see. I loved hearing the excitement of the three people I personally took in the lead car, in the Redcliffe drives,” Mr Coleman said.

It was the first time in a rally car for many of the excited passengers, especially Redcliffe local Ben Ketley.

Ben has been itching to go on the rally for the last few years, and was very pleased to hear his name had been drawn out of a hat to join the epic adventure this year.

“I am so excited that after four years of trying, that I am finally going on the rally,” he said.

Sixty-eight drivers will raise dust and dollars when they set out on a nine-day journey from Redcliffe, through to the heart of Queensland’s golden west and then venture north to the spectacular Whitsundays.

As of late last week, the fundraising total of the Queensland Great Endeavour Rally is $305,379.46.

More than 300 people with a disability will directly benefit from the funds raised, if the rally’s targets are reached and hopefully exceeded.

Some of the targets include renovating the patio, doors and flooring at the Redcliffe Learning & Lifestyle hub.
