Power of Advocacy: How Disability Advocates Are Changing the World

What if every young person with disability had the power to shape their world and the opportunity to do it?

In our Power of Advocacy series, we highlight a new generation of disability advocates from across the country who are stepping up. They are bold. They are passionate. And they are breaking down barriers every single day.

This is not just about having a voice. It is about using it to spark change, challenge the status quo, affect policy and push for true inclusion.

Right at the centre of this movement is Chloe Hosa, a young advocate with a big mission: to help create a world that is fairer and more accessible for people living with disability.

A Young Disability Advocate on a Mission

Chloe is only 27, but she is already making an impact. Based in Mackay, Queensland, she is thriving in her employment at her local Endeavour Foundation Business Solutions. But her work does not stop there. Chloe is also a passionate advocate, using her voice to represent and support others.

She is a core member of Mackay’s Endeavour Foundation Client Advisory Group, where people with disability come together to help shape the services that affect their lives.

“Getting our opinions out there and making sure we’re heard, that’s what matters,” Chloe says. “It’s a chance for people to speak up, raise concerns and share new ideas.”

Chloe is not just focused on the day-to-day. She is also thinking big about how she and others can help drive broader change.

“I’m hoping we can bring more awareness to ministers... that we need more support through government funding,” she says.

One of her ideas? A bus pass to help people with disability better manage their NDIS funding. Transport, she explains, touches every part of life – from getting to work and catching up with friends, to accessing essential disability support services.

From Participant to Advocacy Leader

Chloe’s journey started with a simple invitation to join the Client Advisory Group. She said yes, and everything changed.

Today, she is not just involved. She is leading. She is influencing change. And she is showing just how powerful it can be when people are given the space and support to grow.

“It’s about getting the right people to listen,” she says. “And making sure we’re asking for what we really need.”

Advocating with Purpose and Passion

At Endeavour Foundation, we believe everyone should have the tools to stand up and speak out.

We support research on disability advocacy. We also support and offer services that build confidence, champion inclusion and encourage policy change.

We work side-by-side with people living with disability to make sure lived experience drives everything we do.

Chloe’s story proves that advocacy for people with disability is not just important. It is powerful. It is necessary. And it is already making a difference.
