Why Hiring Inclusively Works for Business

Inclusive hiring is your competitive advantage.

When you open your workplace to people of all abilities, you discover exceptional talent and strengthen your team in ways that drive performance and innovation.

One in five Australians has a disability, and many are already contributing across every industry.

People with intellectual disability bring creativity, persistence, problem-solving and fresh perspectives – qualities proven to drive innovation and performance. Employer partners consistently tell us hiring inclusively:

  • Improves culture
  • Lifts engagement
  • Strengthens customer trust
  • Increases productivity
  • Reduces turnover
  • Boosts team morale

Across industries, workplaces embracing inclusive hiring are finding new ways to innovate and build stronger, more successful teams.

Absolutely. People with disability bring diverse skills, experience and perspectives that contribute to innovation, efficiency and growth.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, more than one in five Australians has a disability, and many thrive in professional, skilled and leadership roles. With the right environment, employees with disability can achieve outstanding results and make lasting contributions to your business.

Direct employment is ideal for businesses that are ready to hire a person with disability into their own workforce. You employ the person directly, pay their wages and manage their role, with Endeavour Foundation providing support, coaching and advice to help everyone succeed.

If your workplace is new to inclusion or not yet ready to hire directly, hosting an employee might be a great first step. In that model, Endeavour Foundation remains the legal employer and provides daily on-site coaching while you host the employee in your workplace.

As a business, it's important to know the different employment models that can help you tap into the talent pool of people with disability. Both pathways help your business hire people with disability, but they differ in funding and level of support.

NDIS-Funded Direct Employment:

  • Designed for people with NDIS funding who are ready to work independently with tailored onboarding and coaching
  • Your business employs directly, and Endeavour Foundation provides inclusion support and guidance to you
  • The employee may also choose Endeavour Foundation to provide them support under their NDIS funding

Inclusive Employment Australia (IEA):

  • A national program for employers hiring people with disability who can work independently
  • Offers inclusive recruitment, retention and wage subsidy opportunities

Our team can guide you through the criteria and application process to access these subsidies and financial support.

If you want to hire someone directly and access wage subsidies, our team can guide you through Inclusive Employment Australia, a national program that supports businesses to hire people with disability.

Eligible employers may receive wage subsidies, onboarding support and ongoing check-ins to help ensure long-term success. We will walk you through the process, help you understand the criteria and support you with any paperwork needed.

If the placement does not work as expected, we’ll collaborate with you to understand what’s not working and adjust.

This might include refining the role or providing extra coaching. Our goal is always to create a sustainable, positive outcome for both you and the employee.
