What Is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a type of NDIS funding that supports you in your home to live as independently as possible. It is about having the right support for daily tasks like cooking, managing appointments or personal care.
While SIL is frequently offered in shared homes with 24/7 support, it can also be for living on your own. The funding covers the cost of support staff, but it does not cover rent, groceries or other daily living expenses.
Your living choices include:
- Shared or group accommodation
- Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA)
- A house you own or rent
- Accommodation through the Department of Housing and similar services
