Qld Taxi Subsidy extension welcomed

14 May 2019

Endeavour Foundation’s CEO Andrew Donne has welcomed the announcement of a 12 month extension of the Taxi Subsidy Scheme for 10,000 NDIS participants in Queensland.

“People with disability rely heavily on the Taxi Subsidy Scheme to be active and contributing members of our community,” Mr Donne said.

“Affordable, accessible transport is a vital link to everyday activities like going to work, buying groceries, going to the doctor and being part of the community, “ he said.

“This link to the community would have been lost when the TSS expired at the end of June this year, leaving an estimated 10,000 NDIS participants stranded.

“We are pleased that the Queensland Government has offered a reprieve to NDIS participants, creating a 12-month buffer for the state and commonwealth governments and the National Disability Insurance Agency to resolve some of the outstanding questions around transport funding.

“Endeavour Foundation will continue to ensure state and commonwealth governments, and the NDIA, are aware of the serious transport funding concerns people with a disability and their carers have.

“We have a long way to go to get proper funding for the transport needs of people with a disability. We are committed to ensuring transport funding is addressed, so that people with disability can access the opportunities the NDIS is designed to provide,” Mr Donne concluded.
