People with a disability in Mackay are planning on making 2011 "their year" with courageous New Year's resolutions – and local woman is asking the community to help make hers reality.
Lyndal Barbar is supported by Endeavour Foundation to achieve her personal and professional life goals – and this year she wants to develop her office administrative skills and give back to Mackay by volunteering.
But to achieve her goal, Lyndal needs a local business that is willing to take her on as an administrative volunteer.
Lyndal has experience with large scale mail-outs and document destruction. Endeavour Foundation support worker Deborah Dennis said Lyndal is keen to develop her administrative skills.
“Volunteering will give Lyndal an opportunity to further develop her workplace skills and will boost her self confidence,” said Deborah.
Endeavour Foundation began as a school started in 1951 by a passionate group of parents who refused to accept that their children with a disability could not be educated.
“The new year gives us an opportunity to commemorate change in public opinion, acceptance and the fading of stigmas attached to disability and to set new goals and ambitions for 2011,” said Endeavour Foundation CEO David Barbagallo.
“With the support of the entire community we are hoping to promote further change and awareness of people with a disability throughout our 60th anniversary this year, and hopefully celebrate the introduction of a National Disability Insurance Scheme.”
Endeavour Foundation offers employment, training, accommodation, education and lifestyle opportunities to more than 3,350 people with a disability throughout Queensland and Sydney.
If you want to support Lyndal to achieve her goal for 2011 and are interested having her volunteer with your organisation and, please call Deborah Dennis on 4944 2251 or email on firstname.lastname@example.org.
