Parkhaven's oldest resident

Parkhaven's oldest resident, Lenny Muller, is devoted to his garden.

Parkhaven at Wacol is Endeavour’s oldest residential in South East Queensland and is home to a diverse and vibrant group of 13 men and 10 women, most of whom have lived there for more than a decade. In 2009, Parkhaven will celebrate its 40th birthday. Soon we hope to find the significant capital funding to build modern new services to replace this aged building.

Leonard ‘Lenny’ Muller (left), is Parkhaven’s oldest resident. Now 74, he is also one of the most active and is devoted to his garden of passionfruit, carrots, cucumber, cabbage, corn, cauliflower, capsicum and herbs. Single-handedly he converted a rough strip of land into a functional, fertile garden, demonstrating his skills in land clearing and building, and innovation in developing clever ways to protect his prized garden from local wildlife.

Lenny is a keen artist with a special interest in drawing and design. When it is too wet or too cold to work in the garden, he listens to his radio, draws and spends time keeping his mind active with jigsaw puzzles.

Lenny attends an external day service from Monday to Friday and enjoys ‘time-off’ visits to many places at Roma Street and in his local area. His girlfriend, Bernice, has lived at Parkhaven since 1979, one year longer than Lenny who arrived in 1980.

Parkhaven provides an environment for Lenny to engage in the activities he most enjoys.
