Mother's Day Flower Harvest

Every year, on the second Sunday of May, we celebrate the miracle of motherhood.  The gift of flowers is ever popular, and as we all prepare for the day, so too do Endeavour clients working at the Endeavour Business Service Farm in Bundaberg.  Although Mother’s Day is only one day of the year, for the dedicated staff and clients at Endeavour Farm, it is just another wonderful day amongst the flowers.

Throughout the last 20 years the Endeavour Farm has been growing glorious chrysanthemums for special days such as these.  With over 3000 of these lovely perennial flowering plants to look after, Endeavour staff and clients are kept constantly busy ensuring that the farm runs smoothly; especially with the busiest day of the year just around the corner.

Many challenges over the years have meant that although good crops came and went, there were many times when bad crops meant slim pickings at the farm.  There were years when the numbers of volunteers were down, but the staff and clients on the farm soldiered on.

David Howard (pictured) is one of many supervisors who supports and assists supported employees to grow and harvest these beautiful flowers in Bundaberg.  Each week the beautiful blooms travel from the farm to markets and stores in Gladstone, Maryborough, Hervey Bay, Mundubbera and Rockhampton.

On Saturday 10 May, the day before Mother’s Day, all hands will be on deck at the farm when they open from 7am right through until 5pm; bringing miles of smiles to mothers near and far.
