Opportunities for people with a disability

Latch-OnTertiary education: Latch-On®

Latch-On® is a tertiary education program designed to develop literacy, technology and life skills in young adults with an intellectual disability. Developed in partnership with the University of
Queensland, it is available only through Endeavour.

Currently, it is offered in Brisbane, Bundaberg, Sydney and Townsville, but Endeavour is working with the Queensland Government to enable it to be offered in other locations to meet local demand for classes.

Each class is co-ordinated by a registered teacher with experience in literacy instruction supported by purpose-trained tutors.

Students attend two days a week for the two-year program, with an optional third year available.

The program enables students to:

  • continue their literacy development, emphasising its importance to their future life;
  • develop communication in oral and written media;
  • develop computer skills;
  • build self-confidence and life opportunities;
  • build friendships through social activities and shared learning; and
  • enhance their employability.

ClueAdvanced tertiary education: CLUE

The CLUE program, Continued Learning for Under 30s at Endeavour, is a full fee-paying program which aims to foster independence, social skills, learning and development in young people with a disability. Endeavour piloted this advanced program and it is now recognised as one of the best in the disability sector.

It is ideal for people with a disability up to 30 years of age who want to develop their literacy, technology or creative skills or who would like to gain voluntary or paid employment. The program allows people with a disability to participate with their peers in a range of activities within the service and in the community to develop their:

  • literacy and communication skills;
  • computer skills;
  • creativity;
  • health and physical activity;
  • independent living and life skills;
  • budgeting and money handling skills; and
  • work readiness.
