Saving 520 Sydney jobs proves sound investment for Endeavour

More than 500 workers in western Sydney, mostly people with a disability, whose jobs were saved by Endeavour Foundation Industries six months ago have shown their thanks - by adding to Endeavour’s success as a quality service provider.

Endeavour Foundation Industries said the 470 supported employees and 50 support staff at the former Cumberland Industries sites at Castle Hill, Seven Hills and Mt Druitt have performed well above expectations, providing a significant increase to the organisation’s capability to deliver quality services to people with a disability.

Employees have wasted no time in settling into the Endeavour community, taking advantage of the organisation’s commitment to providing training and development opportunities that will optimise their earning potential.

CEO David Barbagallo said Endeavour had “restructured operations at the sites and appointed nine new Training and Development Officers to increase the training and up-skilling opportunities for supported employees”.

Endeavour acquired the three sites, along with their Filpac, Clean-Pac, Pak-It-Rite and Sew-It-Rite operations, from Cumberland Industries in September, saving the sites from receivership.

David said the early results confirmed that the purchase was a sound financial investment for Endeavour, as well as being “the right thing to do”.

“The addition of the Sydney operations has increased Endeavour’s capacity and expanded the range of services we can offer, with new operations including pharmaceutical packaging and industrial sewing,” David said.

Along with increased training opportunities, David said Endeavour was also in the process of “re-engaging with families and have established a number of parent support groups”, with plans to establish a NSW area committee.

Endeavour has also been in discussions with the New South Wales Department of Disability, Housing and Aged Care in regard to offering disability services in NSW.
