Gary's 'gut feeling' wins him $680,000 home in Thornlands

Algester resident Gary had a funny feeling about Endeavour Foundation’s latest Prize Home in Thornlands.

The idea of winning a home in Brisbane’s bayside was enough motivation for Gary to buy five last-minute tickets for the Thornlands lottery, the day before sales closed.

And it’s a good thing he did. Gary, a sales manager in his sixties, received a call the next day, informing him he had won the fully-furnished four-bedroom home valued at $680, 614.

On top of the Pontiac Street home, Gary also won $60,000 worth of gold bullion for buying multiple tickets.

“I was over the moon,” said Gary.

“I just had a funny feeling about this house. And I was right.”

While he had an inkling of the win, it was a complete shock for his wife, who had no idea he occasionally bought Prize Home tickets.

The couple and their two children moved to Queensland from New South Wales 22 years ago.

Gary said he supported Endeavour because “it’s a good cause and I try to help out charities when I can”.

Still digesting their win, the couple have not decided what they will do with the new home but said regardless of what they do, the win comes at an ideal time – three years before Gary plans to retire.

“The sale of one of the homes will make our retirement more comfortable and gives us the opportunity to give enough money to the kids for a deposit on a house so they can get out of the rental situation,” Gary said.
