reSolutions training capacity doubles thanks to $24,000 grant
A $24,000 grant from the Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) has made a huge impact on the award-winning reSolutions Employment Service.
reSolutions is part of Endeavour Foundation and supports people with a disability to find sustainable employment in the open market.
The grant was used to buy IT equipment and goods such as a power point projector, digital whiteboard, pull-down screen, two televisions, two DVD players, two computers, a CD player and a photocopier, while also funding the building of 10 workstations.
“The purchases have doubled the training capacity of the service and will ensure the longevity of a quality service devoted to supporting people with a disability to lead ordinary lives,” said reSolutions manager Kathy Marsh.
“We needed this equipment. There is a real need to provide more training facilities to support people with a disability in Toowoomba to prepare for open employment.”
The equipment is to fill a second training room which will also be used for community meetings and for events for potential employers and clients.
reSolutions has about 270 clients at any one time and was last year named a winner at the 2010 Regional Achievement & Community Awards for Queensland.
It won the Salvation Army Employment Plus Employment and Training Award, which recognises the continued success and achievements of businesses that create job opportunities within their communities and offer job placements to those most affected by unemployment.
A dedication ceremony for the new purchases and a celebration of the award will be held next Wednesday, April 27, from 10.30am at reSolutions, 1 Russell Street, Toowoomba.
Attending the ceremony will be Federal Member for Groom Ian MacFarlane MP, State Member for Toowoomba North Kerry Shine MP, Endeavour Foundation Director Shane Charles, Deputy Mayor Paul Antonio and councillors Joe Ramia, Anne Glasheen, Ros Scotney, Bill Cahill and John McVeigh.
Community members, clients and their family and friends will also attend.
reSolutions client Roberta Edwards is particularly looking forward to the day, as she will be involved with the formal proceedings.
Roberta, 51, has a degenerative disorder which affects her back.
Roberta secured temporary part-time employment through reSolutions last year in administration.
She is currently seeking permanent part-time work in administration through the service and receives personal development training to fine-tune her work skills.
“reSolutions is absolutely wonderful,” Roberta said.
“It’s reassuring to know there is a support network to prepare people with a disability for work.”
Roberta will join Shane Charles, Kerry Shine MP and Ian MacFarlane MP to cut the celebratory cake.
The purchase of IT equipment and furniture, being Grant No 0110001401, was proudly funded by the Queensland Government’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund unit. The Gambling Community Benefit Fund uses a percentage of State revenue raised from gaming to offer grants of up to $35,000 to assist community organisations.
