Endeavour seals the envelope on government campaign
When you’re opening the hot pink envelope promoting the Queensland Government’s ‘Eat Well, Stay Active’ campaign,
spare a thought for the people that put those kits together.
The Endeavour Foundation supported disabled employees, general staff and volunteers at the Northgate Business Service worked for seven weeks to assemble 1.5 million of those packs, one for every household in Queensland.
Each of the 12 individual index cards had to be inserted into the folders by hand, before being inserted into the envelope with a letter and sealed.
Northgate Business Service Manager Arthur Thomas said that while his business is equipped and well used to assembling mail pieces and other marketing material, this job was quite unique.
“As far as we’re aware, this is one of the largest mail campaigns ever conducted in Queensland.
“For us to complete the job in the given time-frame, we had to assemble the equivalent of one completed pack every second. That’s 1200 packs hand-assembled every hour in a 24-hour day across a seven day week for seven weeks. Our crews were working tirelessly and the sealing machines were in over-drive,” said Arthur.
Endeavour businesses have come a long way in the last 10 years, they are now more market competitive using technology, automated machinery and trained staff who are paid industry award rates.
“The one thing that hasn’t changed is the reason for our existence – and that’s to provide real employment opportunities for Queenslanders with a disability. Having large jobs like this one ensures there is plenty of work and the funds to keep us going,” said Arthur.
Endeavour’s Northgate Business Service employs 150 supported disabled workers. The Northgate facility specialises in mailing and collating, general packaging and metal fabrication.
“By using the Northgate Business Service for your next project, you’re not just getting the job done effectively and for a competitive price, you’re also helping Endeavour to continue providing opportunities for people with a disability.”
