Endeavour creates rally car commotion

Toowoomba was besieged by bells and whistles on Tuesday 10 July when around 100 brightly coloured rally cars cruised into town for the Great Endeavour Rally registration and send-off dinner.

Toowoomba Mayor, Councillor Dianne Thorley, waved off the first Rally entrant, car number 23, containing Cec Ivers and Greg Anderson from Emerald; the highest fundraisers for this year’s event, having raised over $33,000, and new fundraising record holders.

“The Endeavour Foundation relies on the Rally as its biggest single fundraiser,” said Endeavour Special Event Coordinator Col Clifford. “So it’s only fitting the biggest fundraisers are rewarded with the pole position!”

The first day of the event was a success with all cars safely reaching their first destination, Bollon.

Cars departed this morning from 7.20 and began the 516km trip to Quilpie.

Tomorrow the Rally will take participants on a long trip through the Diamantinia and Western Channel country which features some truly spectacular scenery and some of the harshest terrain in Australia. Cars will stop over in Bedourie.

“The roads out in this country can be quite demanding and due care needs to be taken at all times,” said Great Endeavour Rally Road Boss Jamie Lawson. “If everyone does the right thing and looks after their car, everyone should be in Bedourie just before dark. If anyone goes hard, they’ll bust their car or have an accident and won’t get in until the next day – if at all.”

Rally entrants are expected to cross the finish line at Kooralbyn Resort on Friday 20 July at approximately 1pm.

“The Endeavour Rally has a reputation as one of the best organised events of it’s kind. It's the most fun you can have on four wheels!” said Col. “So what are you waiting for? Check out the website and enrol yourself into next year’s Rally!”
