Queensland Governor, Her Excellency, Quentin Bryce, will be special guest at the Endeavour Foundation’s annual Daisy for Disability Day event at the Maryborough Business Service on Tuesday, 28 August.
Plans are in full swing for a day of celebrations which include a march-past by the Queensland Police Band and a performance of “Advance Australia Fair” by the Maryborough West State School Choir.
The Governor will also be planting a daisy bush, with the help of one of Endeavour’s supported employees, as a special reminder of the day.
The Maryborough Business Service has capacity for 45 supported employees and six staff and has just launched its new Timber Operation, which is the only one of its type operated by people with a disability.
Endeavour’s Supported Employees in Maryborough produce stakes and pegs by the millions, which are predominantly sold to the survey and mining industries state-wide. Now with the production of sawn timber from the new Timber Milling Operation, Endeavour is well-placed to compete in the commercial marketplace.
The $350,000 worth of machinery needed for this venture has come from grants from the Federal Government, the Community Gaming Grant Fund and Endeavour’s own funds.
The Endeavour Foundation is one of the largest non-government organisations in Australia supporting and providing opportunities for people with a disability.
Endeavour operates solely in Queensland and supports around 3,000 people with a disability through a mix of services and businesses at over 220 locations from Cairns and Mareeba in the north, to the southern end of the Gold Coast, and west to Roma, Kingaroy, Stanthorpe and Warwick.
Endeavour’s aim is to provide people with a disability with the same opportunities that many of us enjoy on a day-to-day basis – an opportunity to lead active lives, have valued roles in the community, to enjoy increased independence, and to make individual decisions and life choices.
Daisy for Disability Day is an initiative that was developed by the Endeavour Foundation to showcase and celebrate the lives and abilities of individuals with a disability.
Daisy for Disability Day is a state-wide project that provides an opportunity to create a wider awareness of the services that Endeavour offers and to celebrate its clients’ achievements in a positive manner.
