Endeavour was established in 1951 by a group of parents and friends, who responded to a need for education, care and support services for their children with intellectual disability.
Named 'The Queensland Sub-Normal Children's Association', the organisation began with a strong focus on the education of intellectually disabled children as few services were provided in this area. In 1982, thirty years after the beginning of the organisation, the organisation’s name was changed to 'Endeavour Foundation'.
Endeavour is now known as a statewide body, offering a multitude of services to people primarily with an intellectual disability.
In 1986 the Department of Education took over the educational role of Endeavour, leaving Endeavour to concentrate on the provision of development and support services to adolescents and adults with a disability.
Today Endeavour provides services to almost 3,000 Queenslanders with a disability and their families. The organisation has local offices covering the whole state, has a large membership and conducts many successful fundraising and promotional activities.
